3.23.1 Purpose

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is charged with the responsibility for managing the infrastructure of the Texas A&M International University Data Network (TAMIU.edu). To carry out this responsibility, OIT has established a wireless policy that prohibits access to TAMIU network via unsecured wireless communication mechanism. Only wireless systems that meet the criteria of this policy or have been granted an exclusive waiver by IT department are approved for connectivity for Texas A&M International University’ network

3.23.2 Policy Statement

3.23.2.1 The OIT is responsible for managing the infrastructure of the Texas A&M International University Data Network (TAMIU.edu), including the installation, operation, and security of the University's wireless network.

3.23.2.2 In order to maintain a secure environment for our network, sensor access points have been installed in certain areas in the University to find any rogue access points.

3.23.2.3 The OIT and appropriate local network administrators must approve all wireless network access points prior to installation, and wireless access points may not be installed without prior approval. Unapproved wireless access points are subject to removal.

3.23.2.4 Production wireless network access will be provided by the OIT in conjunction with appropriate local network support staff. Production wireless access includes all access other than those access points specifically installed to support University sanctioned research into wireless technologies.

3.23.3 Access to Wireless network

The Wireless Network service is freely available to all members of the University. Background to the provision of this service and the expected expansion are outlined in the University's terms of Service under the Registered Users box. 

3.23.3.1 Staff and Faculty
Members of the university should use their TAMIU campus email username and password to access the Wireless Network Service.

3.23.3.2 Students of the University
You need to login with your TAMIU email username and password account. If you don't have one, please go to closest lab to create your email at the following website https://mail.students.tamiu.edu/useradmin/ or go to OIT office at Killam 257.

3.23.3.3 Visitors to the University
For our campus visitors please contact the department that you are visiting and ask them to fill out the
visitor’s access form  and submit it to the OIT department at least one day prior to your visitation.

3.23.3.4 All wireless users have to comply with the  network access rules

3.23.3.5 In order to be sure that you are connecting to TAMIU network, please assure that you are authenticating on the http://unplugged.tamiu.edu
